I Bought Stuff
So I finally bought the Canon 5D. I got the package so it came with the 24-105L lens. The lens has Canons Image Stabilizer in it. Just to give a frame of reference, I have upgraded from a Canon 10D. None of my lenses were "L" lenses. It only took a few shots in the house to realize the difference between the two cameras and their lenses. Then again, it should be a stark difference. I wasn't really surprised, just REALLY happy with the performance.
In addition to the 24-105L, I also picked up a 70-200mm f2.8L IS lens. This thing is a beast! It's not exactly a lens that I am going to tote around on the camera just snapping shots but next time I am asked to stay away from the action at a wedding, I will still be able to get the shot from farther away and without the shake.
So from here on out, you can assume that any photo's I post are with my new camera. Here are a few. The B&W is with the 24-105 at around 11pm after a rain. It was shot at 1/20 s @ f4, ISO1600. Still a bit shaky but thats a handheld shot! Good job IS!!
The second is a squirrel in the park. I was probably 40 feet away. The shot was taken with the 70-200mm 1/1000s @ f5 ISO100. Pretty sweet.

god bless the 5D. you won't find another camera (besides a 1D) that handles high ISO this well. just look at the B&W at 1600! sure there's some hints of noise creeping in on the shadows, but we're talking about ISO 1600, so from lesser cameras it would have been unusable.
Canon and Nikon each have their pros and cons, but even the Nikon guys admit that the Canon does the best high ISO processing. tried out 3200 yet?
Seems that you got a good copy of the 24-105 too. sometimes they come soft, and need to be calibrated. And no questions about the 70-200 series, those things can cut glass they're so sharp.
